The Los Angeles Lakers have revoked their deal for Mark Williams, citing the Charlotte Hornets’ “failure to satisfy a condition of the trade.” The Lakers discovered many concerns with Williams during his physical, but they were not related to his back.
On the day of the trade deadline, the Lakers agreed to acquire Williams from the Hornets in exchange for Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, an unprotected 2031 first round selection, and a 2030 first round pick swap. The transaction was contingent on both Williams and Knecht passing their physicals.
Williams Statistics
The 23-year-old Williams has been limited in his first three seasons. As a rookie, Williams participated in 43 games, 19 in 23–24, and has since appeared in just 23 games. In 25.0 minutes this season, Williams is averaging 15.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks.
To re-sign Knecht and Williams, the Lakers will need to waive one player to make room on the roster. Because the Lakers are above the first apron, they are unable to sign any buyout players who were previously paid more than the midlevel exception.
