Exciting news is marching in from Columbus—The Ohio State University Marching Band, affectionately known as “The Best Damn Band in the Land” (TBDBITL), is set to cross international waters once again. In March 2026, the renowned ensemble will travel to Dublin, Ireland, to participate in the city’s world-famous St. Patrick’s Festival Parade. This prestigious invitation places the Buckeye spirit on a global stage, giving students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform for international audiences during Ireland’s most celebrated holiday.
Dr. Christopher Hoch, director of The Ohio State University Marching Band, made the thrilling announcement to the band earlier this fall. The upcoming trip will mark only the second international performance in the band’s storied history. TBDBITL made its overseas debut in 2015, when it performed during an NFL game at Wembley Stadium in London, a performance that helped cement the band’s reputation far beyond the borders of the United States.
Though the complete itinerary for the Ireland trip is still in development, several key performances have already been confirmed. Among the highlights will be a featured performance at the historic Kilkenny Castle—a stunning landmark that dates back to the 12th century. The band will also march in the centerpiece event: the St. Patrick’s Day Parade through the heart of Dublin. This globally televised event draws thousands of spectators to the streets and millions more through broadcast, giving the Ohio State Marching Band a massive platform to showcase its signature formations, precision marching, and powerful musical arrangements.
Additionally, TBDBITL will participate in another festive parade in Celbridge, a charming town located just west of Dublin. These performances will not only celebrate Irish culture but also highlight the musical excellence and Buckeye pride that define the Ohio State Marching Band experience.
The trip promises to be an unforgettable adventure for the students chosen to be part of the 148th edition of the band. Membership for the 2025–26 academic year, which includes participation in the Ireland trip, will be determined during tryouts in August 2025. As with every season, students will compete fiercely for the honor of wearing the scarlet and gray uniform and representing Ohio State on both national and international stages.
Opportunities like this reflect the incredible work, dedication, and talent of every member of TBDBITL, as well as the leadership of Dr. Hoch and his staff. Beyond the music and the marching, the Ireland trip is a testament to the band’s global appeal and its continuing legacy of excellence.
As March 2026 approaches, anticipation builds. Whether you’re an alum, a future band member, a Buckeye fan, or simply someone who loves great marching bands, keep your eyes on Dublin next St. Patrick’s Day. TBDBITL is going international—and it’s going to be spectacular.
