The New York Giants’ plans for the third overall choice are a subject of conjecture as the NFL Draft approaches in two months.
Cam Ward of Miami and Shedeur Sander of Colorado – NFL Draft
Finding a franchise quarterback to guide the squad for the ensuing ten years is the team’s top priority. The Giants must choose a veteran quarterback even though they will probably sign one in free agency. Top quarterback prospects are usually available to teams who select third. Cam Ward of Miami and Shedeur Sander of Colorado are the only quarterbacks projected to be selected in the first round of the 2025 draft class.
In order to get Ward or Sanders, many have predicted that the Giants will trade up with the Tennessee Titans or Cleveland Browns. It would be foolish, though, to trade up for quarterbacks who don’t rank as highly as the best prospects from the previous season.
The Giants should retain their draft capital and remain at No. 3 for the following three reasons.
Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter are regarded by many as the draft’s finest overall prospects, even if Ward and Sanders are the greatest quarterbacks available. The possibility that Sanders or Ward may be available at No. 3 rises as a result.
The Giants have multiple openings on both sides of the ball, but quarterback is still their biggest need. Sanders’ Colorado teammate Hunter, who can contribute to both offense and defense, is recommended by several pundits for the selection.

Hunter’s exceptional adaptability was shown during his time in college. In two years at Colorado, he intercepted seven passes as a cornerback and caught 153 passes for 1,979 yards and 20 touchdowns. Hunter’s flexibility would bolster the secondary while contributing 10–15 offensive snaps alongside Malik Nabers, especially because Deonte Banks regressed in his second season and the defense only managed five interceptions during the season.
Ward and Sanders are at the top of this quarterback class.
No one is aware of the other prospects’ positions on general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll’s draft board, despite the fact that Ward and Sanders are at the top of this quarterback class.
Jaxson Dart, a quarterback for Ole Miss who threw for 11,970 yards and 81 touchdowns throughout his NCAA career, is reportedly a target for the Giants. When the Giants pick 35th overall in the second round, Dart, who is ranked as the third-best quarterback by some analysts, might be available.
Other quarterback prospects on Day 2 are Tyler Shough of Louisville and Quinn Ewers of Texas. All of these players have played in more than 30 games, which is experience the team has historically valued in quarterback prospects, even though fans may not be immediately excited by their names.
NFL Draft is still unpredictable
The 2024 Giants season revealed a number of spots with a lack of talent. Despite the team’s need for depth, Schoen has come under fire for giving up draft money. He selected Banks and Jalin Hyatt by trading up in the 2024 NFL Draft, which now seems like a less wise option than preserving the initial picks.
The Titans and Browns are aware of the Giants’ quarterback urgency and will probably demand high draft compensation, even though moving up one position for Ward or Sanders seems insignificant.
With this class in particular, the NFL Draft is still unpredictable. The Giants’ wisest course of action is to remain at No. 3, despite the temptation to trade up to acquire their top-rated player.
