Jacob Gagai, the recent addition to Huddersfield, is a good example of the need of perseverance.
Back home, the Australian utility back put in years of hard work in the reserve grades. Only last season, at the ripe age of 28, did he make his NRL debut. However, Gagai is now trying to establish himself in the Super League after proving his value with South Sydney.

Regarding that protracted struggle for success, he stated: “My passion for the game was a major factor. I knew I could play at the highest level because I enjoy playing rugby league. I probably didn’t give up because I knew I was capable of doing it.
“I seized the opportunity with both hands. Although I occasionally had those discussions [about pursuing something else], my large and supportive family was always there for me and my boyfriend.
“I might not have continued if it weren’t for them. But since I wouldn’t be standing here now, I’m glad I persisted. The voyage has been interesting.
Elder brother Dane Gagai, the Queensland State of Origin and Australia center, is a member of that family. He responded, “Not too much,” when asked if the World Cup champion had offered him any guidance over his move to Huddersfield. We seldom ever discuss rugby league. The focus is mainly on catching up.
However, he has been incredibly helpful to me. He is eager to begin observing me here. Although he has committed to be present for every game, he stated that he will need to set the alarm clock.
Gagai Stats
In the crucial NRL Las Vegas season opener last year, Gagai made his Souths debut on the wing against Manly. In 17 games, he scored nine tries, including a hat-trick against the Dolphins.
But after agreeing to a two-year contract, Gagai, 29, will play full-back for Luke Robinson’s Huddersfield.
“We have a nice group of guys,” he continued. We’ve established some relationships, and I want to assist us take advantage of every chance for success. I’m eager to get out there. The weather has changed. The temperature in North Queensland, where I’m from, rarely falls below 20 degrees. So it was a significant shift to go straight into the minus and see snow for the first time! However, it’s been fun.
