For Sunday night’s Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium (8 p.m. ET, FOX, MRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio), Chase Elliott of Hendrick Motorsports finished first in a combined practice and qualifying session. Chris Buescher (63.622 mph), Denny Hamlin (63.600 mph), and Tyler Reddick (63.546 mph) were all passed by the driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet at 63.762 mph.
Those four drivers will start from pole position in their separate 25-lap heat races at the “Madhouse” later in the evening. Brad Keselowski’s 63.515 mph finish put him in the top five. Shane van Gisbergen (63.305 mph), Chase Briscoe (63.501 mph), Christopher Bell (63.407 mph), Joey Logano (63.407 mph), and Ryan Blaney (63.313 mph) rounded out the top 10.
For this practice, the field was split up into groups, and each group ran the track three times. Each driver’s fastest lap time on their third and final lap around the course determined their starting position in the heat races. Ty Gibbs set the quickest overall time in Group 1 of practice (64.199 mph), but he finished 24th fastest (62.994 mph) when 39 drivers set a qualifying time in the final practice session. The Heat races begin at 8:30 p.m. ET.
