Former NRL forward Bryce Cartwright has officially signed with the Coolum Colts, marking a fresh chapter in his rugby league journey. The move sees Cartwright join the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League competition for the 2026 season, where his experience is expected to play a pivotal role in the club’s ambitions.
A Career Built Across the NRL
Cartwright brings a wealth of top-level experience, having played 185 NRL matches between 2014 and 2025. His career included notable stints with the Penrith Panthers, Gold Coast Titans, and Parramatta Eels. Known for his unique skill set as a forward, Cartwright carved out a reputation as a creative ball-player capable of unlocking defensive lines with offloads and vision.
Return to Roots Before New Opportunity
Midway through 2025, Cartwright made the decision to step away from the NRL spotlight, returning to his junior club, the St Mary’s Saints. Competing in the Ron Massey Cup, he rediscovered form and confidence, culminating in a championship-winning campaign. The Saints secured the title with a 34–22 victory over the Wentworthville Magpies, with Cartwright playing a key role in their success.
Queensland Return Signals Fresh Motivation
Now, the experienced forward is set to return north to Queensland, embracing a new challenge with the Colts. His arrival is seen as a major boost for the club, not only for his on-field contributions but also for the leadership and professionalism he brings to the squad. For Cartwright, the move represents both a continuation of his playing career and an opportunity to influence a developing team.
A Skillset That Stands Out
Throughout his career, Cartwright has been recognized for his deceptive play, ability to offload in traffic, and strong ball-handling skills — attributes not always associated with players of his size. These qualities make him a unique asset at the local competition level, where his experience and creativity could prove decisive in tight contests.
Colts Eye Championship Push
The Coolum Colts finished third in last season’s first-grade competition, showing promise but falling short of the ultimate prize. With Cartwright now in their ranks, the club believes it has secured the missing piece needed to elevate its performance. His presence is expected to add both structure and flair, strengthening their bid for the 2026 title.
As the new season approaches, anticipation is building around what Cartwright can deliver in this next phase of his career.
