tim patrickWith no reliable alternatives outside of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams in 2024, the Detroit Lions may want to add a wide receiver this summer.

Tim Patrick, the third receiver for Detroit, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agency after recording 33 receptions for 394 yards and three touchdowns. General manager Brad Holmes should look toward adding more receiving corps members, even if the Lions decide to re-sign the former Denver Bronco.

Detroit will sign wide receiver

TWSN’s Marissa Myers believes Detroit will sign wide receiver Cooper Kupp after his anticipated release from the Los Angeles Rams, even if the team may address the position in the early stages of the April selection.

In 2024, Kupp—who turns 32 in June—had yet another season marred by injuries, averaging just 59.2 receiving yards per game, which was his lowest total since 2017. Although a trade is improbable due to his contract, Detroit seems like the perfect place to land him if he is released.

In addition to St. Brown and Williams,

Kupp would provide Jared Goff another trustworthy target in crucial circumstances. Detroit is a desirable place for Kupp to end his career since it provides a good opportunity to contend for a Super Bowl.

Since his historic 2021 triple crown and Super Bowl MVP season, Kupp has missed at least five games in each of the previous three seasons. Despite this, he was nonetheless prolific in 2024, ending with 67 receptions, 710 yards, and six touchdowns.

Following the Rams’ divisional-round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kupp confirmed his plans to play in 2025 while acknowledging doubt about his future in Los Angeles.

> “I feel like I’ve got a lot of good football left in me,” Kupp said during the Rams’ season-ending open locker room session. “I will play football next year. That much I know.

“Who knows what’s going to happen,”

He said. “That is outside of my control. And we will see what it will be. … I’m not sure what that will look like or anything. So, yeah, I’d love to be in L.A., but I’m not sure how that will look.”

If Kupp becomes available, the Lions should pursue him vigorously. He’s unlikely to command a large contract, and Detroit is expected to have $46 million in salary space, enough to sign Kupp and address other roster needs.

While Kupp may never match his dominance in 2021, his outstanding route-running and experience would make him an excellent third option and vital security blanket for Goff in Detroit’s attack.
