Newcastle United faced potential fan outrage if they had sold Anthony Gordon to Liverpool last month. However, it was a consideration for the Magpies as they sought to resolve the problems stemming from the Premier League’s Salary Restraint (PSR) rules. Ultimately, they managed to navigate this situation by selling Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, along with Dan Ashworth’s departure to Manchester United.

It sounds like Newcastle United were in a precarious financial situation where they considered selling Anthony Gordon to avoid points deduction, possibly due to financial fair play regulations (PSR). However, despite interest from Liverpool and concerns about Gordon’s focus, Newcastle now seems optimistic about retaining him beyond this summer, especially since the PSR deadline has passed.

Newcastle United aimed to double their investment in Anthony Gordon by selling him, but negotiations with Liverpool stalled because the Reds felt the Magpies’ valuation of the winger was too high. This meant that despite considering the sale, Newcastle wasn’t able to strike a deal with Liverpool due to a disagreement over the asking price.
