š¾Ā The Penrith Panthers, reigning giants of the NRL, are not resting on their laurels, aggressively strengthening their long-term prospects by tapping into rival development systems. The club has successfully lured another highly-rated junior talent from the Wests Tigers, securing the future backline with the signing of young gun Tyler Peken.
Zero Tackle can exclusively reveal that Peken, a standout in the Wests Tigers pathways system, has formally committed his future to the Panthers. This acquisition further demonstrates Penrith’s strategic focus on dominating the NRL junior rugby league scene and building an unshakeable foundation for years to come.

Pekenās Pedigree and Panthers Pathways
Peken was a key member of the Western Suburbs Magpies squad that competed in this year’s Under-17s Harold Matthews Cup competition. His school performances have been equally impressive; the young star played a pivotal role for Patrician Brothers’ Blacktown, which clinched the prestigious 2025 Peter Mulholland Cup.
The Panthersā Pathways roadmap for Peken is clear: he is slated to play in the highly competitive Under-19s SG Ball Cup next year. This move is designed to accelerate his development, preparing him for the demanding transition to the professional ranks.
While primarily recognized as a potent Centre, Pekenās versatility is a major asset that attracted the Panthers. Over the past year, he has also capably filled roles on the Wing and in the Halves at both club and school level, making him an invaluable utility player for the NRL championsā future roster.
Building the Backline: Peken Joins Goodfield
Pekenās signing is the second major raid on the Tigersā junior development this season. He follows fellow talented youngster Thomas Goodfield in making the switch to the foot of the mountains.
Goodfield, a product of the Camden Rams junior rugby league system and St Gregory’s College, agreed to join the Penrith Panthers earlier in the year. He had spent the last two seasons with the Magpies in the Harold Matthews Cup and made an immediate impression, earning selection as an Under-16s NSW City representative in 2024.
Goodfield harbors clear ambitions for his career, expressing his ultimate goal to Zero Tackle earlier this year. āMy dad, who was a die-hard Parra fan, got me into playing footy, and itād be mad and good for my family (to one day play in the NRL),ā Goodfield said. āIāve played this sport all the way up through the grades, but Iād just be over the moon about it if it does happen in the future. It would be so good (to play in the NRL).ā
By securing talents like Peken and Goodfield, the Penrith Panthers are ensuring a seamless transition of talent, confirming their position as the leading club in NRL development and setting the stage for continued NRL premiership contention for the next decade.
