Neil Young Blasts President Trump Over Attacks on Springsteen and Swift: “Wake Up, Republicans!”

Rock legend Neil Young has once again taken a strong stance against President Donald Trump, this time responding to the politician’s recent outburst targeting fellow artists Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift. In a powerful statement posted to his official website on Tuesday, May 20, the Canadian-American musician called out Trump for what he described as an “out of control” obsession with entertainers while ignoring more urgent national and global issues.

Young’s remarks were prompted by Trump’s string of incendiary posts on Truth Social in which the ex-president labeled Springsteen “highly overrated” and “dumb as a rock,” and claimed Swift was “no longer ‘HOT’” after stating publicly that he “HATES” the pop superstar. Trump’s rant was widely seen as another in a series of personal attacks he has lobbed at public figures who have been openly critical of him and his policies.

“Bruce and thousands of musicians think you are ruining America,” Young wrote, expressing frustration with Trump’s fixation on celebrity feuds rather than focusing on meaningful leadership. “You worry about that instead of the dying kids in Gaza. That’s your problem. I am not scared of you. Neither are the rest of us.”

Young didn’t hold back, blasting Trump for his inaction during crises such as natural disasters—specifically mentioning the shutdown of FEMA—and for placing his own interests above the wellbeing of Americans. “You are more worried about yourself than AMERICA,” Young wrote. “Stop thinking about what rockers are saying. Think about saving America from the mess you made.”

He also expressed solidarity with Swift and Springsteen, both of whom have criticized Trump in the past. “Taylor Swift is right. So is Bruce,” Young affirmed, aligning himself with the values and political stances of the two artists.

Trump’s latest tirades didn’t end with Swift and Springsteen. He later accused several prominent celebrities—Beyoncé, Bono, Oprah Winfrey, and Springsteen among them—of participating in what he called an “illegal election scam” allegedly orchestrated by Vice President Kamala Harris. Claiming without evidence that Harris paid the artists for their endorsements during her campaign, Trump called for a “major investigation,” despite Harris’s campaign denying such payments and no credible reports supporting the claim.

To Young, these accusations are nothing more than a calculated distraction. “You are forgetting your real job,” he wrote. “You work for us. Wake up Republicans! This guy is out of control. We need a real president!!”

Young’s latest comments add to his long history of opposition to Trump, having previously called him a “disgrace to my country” and challenged his policies throughout his presidency. As the political landscape heats up once more, Young is clearly not backing down.
