🎸 Get ready to check your bank account and your gravity tolerance. If Megadeth founder and frontman Dave Mustaine gets his wish, seeing the legendary band’s final concert might require covering the cost of a trip to outer space!

The iconic thrash metal group—a member of the “Big Four” alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax—is gearing up for their grand finale. They plan to release their final album in January 2026 before embarking on an extensive, multi-year farewell tour. Mustaine, however, has a truly spectacular vision for the very last show.

An Interstellar Climax

In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Mustaine, 64, shared his ultimate dream for the band’s swan song: literally playing outside of Earth’s atmosphere.

> “I hope we’ll be playing up in space,” Mustaine revealed. “I think that will be a really fitting climax. And I’m not talking about on the side of a vomit comet; a gig on the moon, a full moon landing. That would be cool.”

Talk about a giant leap for metal-kind!

Inspired by Celebrity Space Travel

Mustaine’s ambition isn’t just a fantasy; it’s inspired by current events. He referenced celebrities, including Katy Perry and Star Trek’s William Shatner, who have recently ventured into space.

“I saw they sent up a bunch of celebrities into space and I thought ‘Well, if them, why not me?’, you know?” he explained.

He is closely tracking the progress of commercial interstellar travel led by figures like Elon Musk and Richard Branson, believing the technology is advancing rapidly. “I think people are going to be travelling to space a lot sooner than you think,” he stated, noting that the only remaining major question is whether humans will eventually be able to inhabit the Moon.

The Mars Toothbrush Problem

While he dreams of playing a lunar concert, Mustaine is less enthusiastic about the idea of living permanently on another celestial body. He pointed out the impracticalities of settling on a distant planet like Mars with a humorous scenario:

“People were talking about a trip to Mars, but all I can imagine is somebody suddenly going, ‘Oh! I forgot my toothbrush!’ That would be the longest flight ever!”

For now, fans can look forward to the final album and the start of the farewell tour, but if Mustaine’s dream is realized, you may need to book your shuttle ticket before your concert ticket!
