The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program has secured a major victory on the recruiting trail, landing in-state star Jayden McClain, a 6-foot-6 center ranked No. 12 nationally in the 2029 class.
McClain, who plays for the Ryle Raiders in Florence, Kentucky, averaged 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.7 blocks per game as a freshman. Her dominant presence in the paint and defensive instincts have already drawn national attention.
She chose Kentucky over strong offers from Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State, citing her excitement about Coach Kenny Brooks’ system and its track record of developing versatile post players. With McClain’s commitment, the Wildcats add another cornerstone to a roster already brimming with talent. Returning stars like Clara Strack and Asia Boone, alongside high-profile transfers including Me’Arah O’Neal and Diana Collins, give Kentucky a formidable lineup heading into the 2026–27 season.
The Wildcats reached the Sweet 16 in 2026, their first in a decade, and finished with 25 wins last season. Analysts believe that with McClain’s addition, Kentucky women’s basketball may have a stronger chance than the men’s team to reach the 2027 Final Four.
