Jett Lawrence continued his dominance in the 450 Pro Motocross class, claiming the overall victory at the 2025 Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, California. After a conservative third-place finish in the heat-stricken Moto 1, Lawrence came out swinging in Moto 2. He grabbed the holeshot and quickly built a commanding lead, controlling the race from the front to clinch the overall win.
“The main obstacle [in Moto 1] was the heat,” Lawrence told Peacock’s Haley Shanley. “I just wanted to sprint those first few laps [in Moto 2], get a gap, and kind of manage it.”
Eli Tomac, who had beaten Lawrence head-to-head in Moto 1 to snap Jett’s undefeated run, couldn’t keep the momentum going. A rough start in Moto 2 left him last out of Turn 1, and though he clawed back into the top 10, a crash while fighting for fifth sent him to ninth in the moto. His 1-9 finishes dropped him to fourth overall.
Aaron Plessinger finished second overall with a strong 1-3 performance. He led most of Moto 1 before Tomac passed him late and followed it up with a gritty ride in Moto 2, pushing through fatigue to beat Hunter Lawrence for third. Plessinger’s consistency elevated him to second in the championship standings, now 16 points behind Jett Lawrence.
Justin Cooper had his best outing in the 450 class, finishing second in Moto 2 and third overall—his first career 450 overall podium. Hunter Lawrence rounded out the top five with 5-4 moto results.
Jorge Prado made waves by scoring his first top-five moto finish in the U.S. with a fifth-place ride in Moto 2, but his 12th in Moto 1 left him ninth overall.
The intense heat led officials to shave five minutes off Moto 2’s run time, which factored into strategies and affected comeback efforts—especially for riders like Tomac. As the series heads into Round 3 at Thunder Valley, Jett Lawrence has established a strong early lead in the championship, with two wins in the opening two rounds and only one moto loss in his 450 Pro Motocross career.
