Former Lions quarterback is once again at the center of trade talks
On January 28, CBS Sports’ NFL analyst Cody Benjamin predicted a series of blockbuster quarterback transactions that might affect the upcoming offseason.
Teams in need of a signal-caller may turn to veteran options since the 2025 NFL Draft class lacks exceptional quarterback skill, which could result in a crowded trade market.

In his story, Benjamin detailed 17 quarterback trades, one of which involved the Rams. He predicted that as a potential replacement for Stafford, Los Angeles might sign quarterback Daniel Jones of the Minnesota Vikings, previously of the New York Giants.
Benjamin pointed out that Matthew Stafford, who will shortly age 37, is the sure starter if he makes a comeback. “Sean McVay needs a younger arm to grow, and he has previously supported reclamation projects (like Baker Mayfield).”
Stafford will turn 37 in February, but according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, he has no plans to retire just yet.
