The Texas Rangers have been dealt a devastating setback as star shortstop Corey Seager has once again landed on the injured list, this time with recurring lower back inflammation.
Seager, who has already missed significant time this season due to multiple stints on the IL, was forced to exit the team’s latest series after experiencing renewed discomfort. The Rangers confirmed the diagnosis late Sunday, sparking fears that his season could be in jeopardy.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Texas, who are battling to stay competitive in the AL West. Seager’s absence leaves a major hole in the lineup, as he has been one of the team’s most consistent offensive weapons when healthy.
Manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged the severity of the situation, noting that the team will need to rely on depth players to step up in Seager’s absence. “It’s tough losing a guy like Corey again,” Bochy said. “We’ll keep evaluating, but right now we have to prepare as if he’ll be out for a while.”
