The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bolstering their linebacker corps with the addition of veteran inside linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. on a one-year contract, according to multiple reports. Walker, who spent last season with the Miami Dolphins, brings valuable experience and leadership to the Buccaneers’ defensive unit.
A former fifth-round pick out of Northwestern in the 2017 NFL Draft, Walker began his career with the Indianapolis Colts, where he developed into a reliable defensive presence. During his four seasons in Indianapolis, he played a key role in the team’s linebacker rotation, often complementing All-Pro Darius Leonard. Walker then signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2021, where he spent two seasons as a defensive leader before joining the Dolphins in 2023.
Despite dealing with injuries in recent years, Walker has remained an efficient tackler and communicator on defense. In Miami, he appeared in 13 games, recording 65 tackles, three passes defended, and one forced fumble. While his stint with the Dolphins was brief, his veteran presence and football IQ were valuable assets to the team.
For the Buccaneers, Walker’s signing provides much-needed depth at inside linebacker following the departure of key players in free agency. Tampa Bay’s defense, which has been a cornerstone of their success in recent years, benefits from Walker’s ability to read offenses, contribute in coverage, and provide leadership in the locker room.
Walker now joins a Buccaneers team that remains competitive in the NFC South and is looking to build upon its recent playoff appearances. With his experience and versatility, he could play a crucial role in Todd Bowles’ defensive scheme, helping Tampa Bay remain one of the league’s most formidable defensive units.
