With the recruitment of Amontre Harris, a 2026 EDGE rusher from Houston, Texas’ Summer Creek High School, TCU continues its successful recruiting campaign. Harris, who chose TCU over offers from SMU, Houston, and Tulsa, becomes the Horned Frogs’ seventh commit of the class and their fifth from Texas in January.
Harris, who is 6’4″ and 220 pounds, had a great junior season with 10 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, and 52 tackles. He is a promising defensive prospect due to his height, physique, and athleticism. Along with strong foot speed and the ability to shift directions, he has excellent lateral movement, explosiveness, flexibility, and acceleration.
Have the ability to pass quickly
With a quick first step, Harris is an excellent pass rusher who uses his explosiveness to maintain solid pad level and establish depth. He uses powerful hand placement to attack offensive tackles, giving him leverage and the ability to read the play. His speed rush works well; he can bend and corner quickly enough to get past blockers with a rip move. In order to collapse the pocket, he also has a growing bull rush and a strong inside rip move. Harris finishes strong, bringing down quarterbacks and interfering with plays with his strong grip.
Run Defense
Harris maintains his gap integrity against the run by displaying strong lateral movement. He pursues plays with vigor and perseveres through blocks until the whistle, playing with great effort and competitive toughness.
Growth and Forecasting
Harris will need to develop his pass-rush skills, hone his power moves, and add more counters to go along with his speed to realize his full potential. Nonetheless, he should be able to compete for early rotational reps at TCU due to his natural athleticism and motor, and he possess the potential to become a starting EDGE defender at the Power Four level.
