In the storied history of Duke Men’s Basketball, few milestones have been reached with the clinical speed displayed by Jon Scheyer. On Tuesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Blue Devils secured a 97–73 victory over the Lipscomb Bisons, handing Scheyer his 100th career win. In doing so, Scheyer became the fastest coach in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) history to reach the century mark, achieving the feat in just 122 games.

The victory eclipsed the previous conference record held by Duke legend Vic Bubas, who reached 100 wins in 128 games in 1964. Nationally, Scheyer’s pace puts him in elite company; he is now the second-fastest coach in modern NCAA history to reach 100 wins, trailing only Brad Stevens (120 games) and surpassing the likes of Mark Few (126 games).

Shaking Off the Midterm Blues

Despite the historical weight of the evening, the game began with a performance that reflected the grueling academic schedule of the previous week. Coming off a 10-day layoff for fall semester finals, the Blue Devils appeared visibly “rusty,” struggling with uncharacteristic sloppiness in the opening frame.

Duke surrendered a season-high 24 turnovers throughout the contest, with a staggering 16 of those coming in the first half alone. The Lipscomb Bisons took full advantage of the disarray, mounting a 10-point lead midway through the first half and threatening to spoil the celebration. However, Duke’s defensive intensity and overwhelming presence on the glass—finishing with a +34 rebounding margin—allowed them to enter the locker room with a narrow three-point lead.

Boozer and “Slim” Lead the Charge

The second half told a different story. Shaking off the mental fatigue, the Blue Devils outscored the Bisons 49–28 after the break. Leading the resurgence was freshman phenom Cameron Boozer, who recorded a monster double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Boozer’s ability to dominate the paint and convert second-chance opportunities proved to be the difference-maker.

He was supported by sophomore sharpshooter Isaiah “Slim” Evans, who added 16 points and hit four crucial three-pointers to stretch the Lipscomb defense. The game also featured a breakout performance from freshman center Patrick Ngongba II, who recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Veteran presence Maliq Brown (11 points, 9 rebounds) and Darren Harris (11 points) rounded out a balanced offensive effort that saw five Blue Devils reach double figures.

Eyes on the Big Apple

With the victory, Duke remains a perfect 11–0 to start the 2025–26 campaign. However, the celebration of Scheyer’s milestone will be short-lived as the schedule intensifies. The Blue Devils will head to Madison Square Garden this Saturday for a high-profile showdown in the SentinelOne Classic against No. 19 Texas Tech.

As Duke looks to maintain its unblemished record against its toughest opponent of the month, the focus remains on cleaning up the turnovers that plagued the first half against Lipscomb. For Scheyer, the 100th win is a testament to the standard of excellence maintained in Durham, but for this current squad, the real journey toward March is only just beginning.
