Visitors to South Bend for Notre Dame’s ND/Navy weekend will have the opportunity to experience a unique blend of history, art, and innovation at The History Museum on Sunday, November 9. As part of the museum’s ongoing Rockne Lecture Series, brothers Paul, Mark, and their sibling, joined by Paul’s son Frank (FHK), will present a special session titled “Rockne, Art & Technology.”

The presentation, scheduled for 2 p.m., will take attendees behind the scenes of Paul’s acclaimed Notre Dame sculptures, offering an in-depth look at how each piece evolves from a creative idea into a finished bronze masterpiece. The lecture will explore every stage of the artistic process — from initial sketches and clay sculpting to mold-making, 3D scanning, digital printing, casting in bronze, and even gold gilding.
Paul’s work has become an integral part of the Notre Dame landscape. His notable creations include Our Lady at the Morris Inn, The Four Horsemen relief at the Eck Visitors Center, and the series of Knute Rockne busts displayed in the Rockne: Life & Legacy exhibit at The History Museum. Each sculpture reflects not only the university’s rich heritage but also the evolving intersection of art and technology.
The upcoming session will also examine how innovation continues to shape both artistic and athletic disciplines. Drawing parallels between Knute Rockne’s revolutionary impact on football and the transformative role of modern technology in creative industries, the speakers will highlight how imagination, craftsmanship, and innovation remain timeless forces of change.
For those returning to campus or visiting South Bend for game weekend, “Rockne, Art & Technology” promises to offer an inspiring glimpse into the fusion of tradition and progress that defines both Notre Dame and the broader world of creative expression.
Admission details and additional Rockne Lecture Series information are available through The History Museum.
