Haiden Deegan Dominates Southwick 250 Qualifying with Blistering Pace
Haiden Deegan delivered a commanding performance during the 250 class qualifying sessions at the 2025 Southwick Motocross National, making it clear that he was in a league of his own at The Wick 338 in Massachusetts. With lap times more than two seconds faster than the rest of the field in both sessions, Deegan left no doubt that he is not just fast — he’s thriving in the sand.
Deegan’s best time in the first qualifying session was an eye-popping 2:04.748, which set the tone for the rest of the day and secured him the top gate pick for the motos. His closest challenger, Tom Vialle, posted a time of 2:06.814 — over two seconds off the pace. In fact, the gap between Deegan and fifth-fastest rider Mikkel Haarup was a massive 3.427 seconds, showcasing just how dominant the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider was.
In the second qualifying session, Deegan didn’t back down. He clocked another sensational lap of 2:06.891, again clearing the field by a wide margin. Seth Hammaker was second fastest in that session with a time of 2:09.432, 2.541 seconds behind Deegan. Julien Beaumer (2:10.013) posted the third-best time in the session, looking to build momentum after a rollercoaster start to his season.
Frenchman Tom Vialle and Levi Kitchen rounded out the top five in Qualification 2, with times of 2:10.342 and 2:10.386, respectively. However, Vialle’s session wasn’t without problems. A mechanical issue midway through the run hampered his rhythm and kept him from building on his earlier lap.
There was also concern for young rider Casey Cochran, who crashed early in the second session and needed assistance from the Alpinestars Medical team. Cochran, who was ninth fastest in the first session, appeared to suffer a shoulder injury — possibly a separation — which casts doubt on his ability to race.
Another positive takeaway from the day was the continued progress of Michael Mosiman. Returning from injury, Mosiman showed flashes of his old speed with a solid 2:06.952 in the first session, good enough for third place behind Deegan and Vialle.
With both qualifying sessions now complete, the story is clear: Haiden Deegan is the man to beat at Southwick. On a track known for punishing its riders with deep, brutal sand, Deegan looked completely at home. As he put it, “I guess I’m a sand guy now.” If today’s performance is any indication, Danger Boy might just be unstoppable this weekend.
