The 2025 NFL Draft proved to be a proud moment for the Texas A&M football program as two of its standout defensive linemen, Nic Scourton and Shemar Turner, were selected in the second round on Friday evening. The duo, who anchored the Aggies’ defensive front, will now take their talents to the next level after earning impressive collegiate resumes.

Nic Scourton was selected with the 51st overall pick by the Carolina Panthers following a standout season in College Station. In his only year at Texas A&M, the Bryan, Texas native made an immediate impact, starting all 12 regular season games and becoming a force in the Southeastern Conference. Scourton finished the season with 14.0 tackles for loss, which ranked third in the SEC, and he recorded at least one tackle for loss in eight separate games. His disruptive presence on the defensive line was a key factor in helping the Aggies finish among the top 25 teams nationally in total tackles for loss with 92.0 on the season.

Scourton’s efforts did not go unnoticed on the national stage. He was a finalist for the 2024 Lott IMPACT Trophy and a semifinalist for both the Lombardi Trophy and the Bednarik Award. He also earned significant postseason accolades, including Walter Camp All-America Second Team honors and a spot on the All-SEC First Team. These recognitions reflect not only his on-field production but also his leadership and character.

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko spoke highly of Scourton, recalling the early days of recruiting him at Bryan High School. “Nic’s raw talent was obvious when I first recruited him,” Elko said. “When I finally had the chance to coach him, he quickly proved to be a very intelligent player who gave maximum effort every single play. He is a testament to what hard work and dedication can achieve.” Elko added that Scourton embodies the spirit of both an Aggie and now, a Panther.

Just 11 picks later, Shemar Turner also heard his name called when the Chicago Bears selected him with the 62nd overall pick. Turner, another cornerstone of the Aggies’ defensive unit, now joins a Bears franchise known for its defensive heritage. His selection capped off a memorable day for Texas A&M and highlighted the program’s continued ability to develop NFL-caliber talent.

With both Scourton and Turner heading to the pros, Aggie fans have plenty to be proud of as they watch these two defenders carry on their legacies at the next level.
