Penrith Panthers hooker Mitch Kenny has declared his loyalty to the club, signing a long-term deal that will keep him in black and teal until the end of the 2031 NRL season.
Kenny, a Penrith junior who debuted in 2019, has become a cornerstone of the Panthers’ dynasty, featuring in their 2022, 2023, and 2024 premiership victories. His new contract marks the first major player extension since the departure of coach Ivan Cleary, signaling stability as the team transitions under incoming coach Peter Wallace.
“I’ve secured our future,” Kenny said, reflecting his commitment to the club and its fans. His decision comes despite strong interest from the expansion franchise PNG Chiefs, proving his loyalty to Penrith.
Panthers General Manager Shane Elford praised Kenny’s courage and leadership, noting his role as a mentor for younger players. Kenny’s community involvement, including hospital visits and charity work, also earned him a nomination for the 2026 Ken Stephen Medal.
Currently sidelined with a leg injury, Kenny is expected to return later this season as Penrith chase their fifth premiership in six years. His extension sets the tone for upcoming negotiations with other stars like Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo, and Brian To’o.
