For NASCAR fans, the Weather Channel has good news
There is now a 24% chance of precipitation on any day between Thursday and Saturday. This suggests that everything should proceed as planned for the Duel at Daytona on Thursday, the NASCAR Truck Series race on Friday, and the ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series races on Saturday.
Please take this with a grain of salt, as we are talking about the weather in Daytona Beach, Florida. Even if there was a 15% chance of rain and you were in the middle of a downpour, your local weather apps would insist on clear skies. Of course, AccuWeather and other forecast apps are forecasting more rain than The Forecast Channel.
AccuWeather forecast: 60% chance of thunderstorms
So don’t rule anything out. According to The Weather Channel, there is now a 60% chance of thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon, with gusts above 40 mph expected. Moreover, this is a lot more optimistic than AccuWeather’s forecast.

AccuWeather has forecast an 88% chance of thunderstorms and said explicitly that “a delay or postponement of the race due to rain cannot be ruled out.” Even in February, a lot is implied when talking about Florida weather, and postponements and/or delays are common in connection with the “Great American Race.” In just the last five years, only two Daytona 500s have gone according to the schedule. The race in 2020 started on Sunday, stopped, and finished on Monday evening.
Remarkably, last year’s postponement of the race from Sunday to Monday was only the second time in its 66-year history that it was entirely postponed. It was rescheduled for late Sunday evening in 2021 and didn’t end until early Monday morning. In 2012, the first complete postponement took place.
