In the grueling world of Supercross, the track usually does the damage. But for Eli Tomac, a historic night at the 2026 Daytona International Speedway ended with a literal “crack” heard ’round the podium. After securing a record-extending eighth premier-class victory at the world-famous venue, the Red Bull KTM rider found that the only thing capable of stopping his “unstoppable flow” was the victory trophy itself.

A Masterclass on the Florida Sands

The eighth round of the 2026 AMA Supercross Championship was billed as a showdown between the old guard and the new. Entering the night just a few points behind red-plate holder Hunter Lawrence, Tomac looked every bit the “King of Daytona.” While his rivals struggled with the deep, evolving sandy ruts, Tomac sliced through the field with surgical precision.

By the halfway point of the Main Event, he had bypassed Ken Roczen and Hunter Lawrence, checking out to win by over a second. The victory marked his 57th career 450SX win and further solidified his status as the most successful rider in Daytona history, moving him past the legendary Richard Petty’s mark of seven wins at the speedway.

The Podium Mishap: Trophy vs. Titan

The real drama, however, unfolded during the post-race celebrations. As Tomac jubilantly hoisted the heavy Daytona trophy, the top section of the award—featuring a metal rider figure—sheared off its base. The sudden release of weight sent the metal component directly into Tomac’s face, striking him square in the mouth.

Spectators and TV cameras caught the moment of impact, followed by the sight of a chip of white enamel flying through the air. In a bizarre twist of fate, the man who had just conquered the most physically demanding track in the world was sidelined by his own prize.

Taking it with “Hillbilly” Humor

Rather than letting the dental disaster dampen his spirits, Tomac leaned into the absurdity of the moment. Clutching his mouth in shock before breaking into a gap-toothed grin, he joked with the media during the post-race press conference.

“Somehow I have won eight Daytonas, but apparently eight gives you a cracked tooth!” Tomac laughed. “I popped my tooth out lifting the trophy up. Right now, I look like a real ‘hillbilly,’ so I’ll try not to smile too much for the cameras.”

The incident has already become a viral sensation, with fans dubbing it the “Temu Trophy” incident. Despite the missing hardware in his mouth, Tomac’s “champion energy” remains intact as he moves within just one point of the championship lead heading into next week’s Triple Crown.
