Though their time as teammates was short, the two forged an unshakeable bond. Luke was known for his relentless optimism, resilience, and ability to uplift everyone around him.
The former Aggie’s inspiring journey was tragically cut short in 2019. After battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer—Burkitt’s lymphoma, also referred to as Burkitt leukemia—Luke passed away at the age of 21. His legacy became encapsulated in the rallying cry: #LiveLikeLuke.

For his “My Cause, My Cleats” custom design, Garrett ensured that Luke’s memory was front and center. The special footwear featured Luke’s likeness, the #LiveLikeLuke message, and the name of the Luke Laufenberg Fight Fund, promoting awareness and funding for cancer awareness and prevention.
