🚀 As legendary thrash metal band Megadeth prepares to call it quits, frontman Dave Mustaine is planning an exit that is truly out of this world. The band intends to release one final album in January and embark on an extensive farewell tour before retiring. However, Mustaine has revealed a spectacularly ambitious, and highly unusual, idea for the location of their final concert.

Mustaine’s Interstellar Ambition

In an interview with Metal Hammer, Mustaine shared his vision for Megadeth’s climax: a gig in outer space.

“I hope we’ll be playing up in space,” he stated. “I think that will be a really fitting climax. And I’m not talking about on the side of a vomit comet. A gig on the Moon, a full moon landing, that would be cool.”

The inspiration for this concept came from observing the recent trend of celebrities traveling beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Mustaine referenced public figures like William Shatner and Katy Perry making space trips, prompting him to think, “Well, if them, why not me?”

A Serious Future for Space Travel

Mustaine confirmed that his proposal is entirely serious, rooted in his belief that space travel is rapidly becoming accessible. He noted that he is closely watching the progress of space entrepreneurs like Elon Musk and Richard Branson.

“I know Elon Musk and Richard Branson were working on interstellar travel. I think people are going to be traveling to space a lot sooner than you think,” he asserted.

He elaborated on his conviction, arguing that travel at extremely high altitudes already places individuals close to the frontier of space. The only remaining question, in his mind, is whether humans will soon be able to inhabit the Moon itself.

The Longest Flight Ever

While Mustaine envisions a concert among the stars, he expressed little interest in permanent interplanetary living. He mused about the practical challenges of life on another planet, humorously summarizing his hesitation regarding long-distance space travel.

“People were talking about a trip to Mars, but all I can imagine is somebody suddenly going, ‘Oh! I forgot my toothbrush!’ That would be the longest flight ever!’” he concluded.

Should Mustaine’s spectacular ambition come to fruition, Megadeth’s final show would undoubtedly require fans to travel considerable distances, turning their last performance into a truly global, or perhaps even celestial, event.
